A tech pack is a fundamental technical document in the garment design and production process. It serves as a detailed guide for manufacturing the product, including all necessary specifications: materials, colors, stitching, dimensions, and most importantly, the pattern. If you want to digitize your patterns and use them for mass production or precise prototyping, a tech pack is indispensable.

Why is a Tech Pack Necessary for Digitization?

Precision and consistency: A tech pack gathers all the information about the design, ensuring that the garment’s specifications (such as fabrics, cut, and finishes) are respected throughout production. This is especially important when digitizing a pattern: a digital version will be created based on these precise details, guaranteeing uniformity across all sizes and versions of the garment.

Ease of adjustment: Once digitized, the pattern can be quickly modified to test different sizes or fits without redrawing manually. A well-detailed tech pack saves time and avoids production errors.

Mass production: A tech pack is essential for manufacturers because it contains all the data needed for industrial production. If you want to produce your garments in large quantities, the tech pack provides factories with the exact information to replicate your design consistently and accurately, using the right materials and respecting seam allowances.

How Do We Digitize Your Patterns Using a Tech Pack?

  1. Gathering information: We start by collecting all necessary data about the model: garment measurements, fabric types, colors, finishes, accessories (such as buttons, zippers), etc. This step also includes sketches or design renderings.
  2. Creating the base pattern: Next, a base pattern is created from the measurement information and initial design. This pattern is intended to be used as the model in the digitization process.
  3. Creating the Tech Pack: The tech pack is then prepared, including:
    • Technical drawings (pattern diagrams),
    • Detailed manufacturing instructions (stitching, finishes, seam allowances),
    • Types of fabrics and materials to use,
    • Information regarding sizes and model variations,
    • Production of pre-production samples (PPS) to verify conformity.
  4. Pattern digitization: Using the base pattern and tech pack data, the pattern is digitized with pattern-making software. This creates a digital version that can be easily modified, optimized for different sizes, and used to produce prototypes or production pieces.
  5. Validation and adjustments: Once digitized, the pattern is tested and adjusted based on results from a toile (muslin) sample. Modifications can be made to perfect the fit or design before moving to mass production.
  6. Final production: Once all adjustments are approved, the digitized pattern and tech pack are ready to be used for mass production or to produce additional samples. The manufacturer can then produce large quantities following the precise specifications of the tech pack.
